In a move anticipated to resonate positively with the electorate, the Bhajanlal Sharma administration in Rajasthan has greenlit a 4% increase in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners, just ahead of the impending Lok Sabha elections.

The decision, announced following a state cabinet meeting in Jaipur, marks a strategic alignment with the central government’s policies, benefitting approximately 8 lakh employees and 4.40 lakh pensioners across the state.


“Earlier, state government employees were receiving a 46% dearness allowance. We’ve now escalated it by four percentage points to reach 50%,” remarked Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma during a media briefing post the cabinet deliberations.

Effective January 1st, 2024, the surge in dearness allowance stands at 4%, signifying a substantial relief for the state’s workforce. Chief Minister Sharma elucidated, “The 4% hike in dearness allowance will impose an additional fiscal burden of around ₹1,640 crore on the state government annually.”

Expressing his sentiments on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the Chief Minister iterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and public welfare. “Everyone’s support, everyone’s development, everyone’s trust…Our government, dedicated to good governance, has increased the dearness allowance of state employees by 4%, benefiting 8 lakh employees and 4.40 lakh pensioners,” Sharma posted in Hindi.
